It's Great To Be In Victoria

After a great summer in Victoria, the changing of seasons (not to mention the rolling forward of clocks) can be a little disheartening at first. We just went through one of the hottest driest summers on record, but that’s over now. The many events, festivals and outdoor concerts have all been crossed off on the calendar, and the official nesting period of Victorians can now begin. But living in Victoria has its perks in the wintertime. Not only do we have the mildest climate in the country, we have an incredible community that continues to create engaging activities to enjoy.  We love being a part of Victoria, and Winter time has a way of reminding us exactly why.

Victoria’s Winter Activities

Victoria Royals HockeyIf you’re a fan of hockey, count yourself blessed. The Victoria Royals are a WHL Major Junior squad (huge talent in young kids) who can provide plenty of excitement for the price of a ticket. This isn’t the NHL, but it gives you a chance to see some NHL future talent at a price that makes it easy to bring the family. There’s always something happening at the game, and Victoria’s Marty the Marmot has even won “Favorite Mascot in North America”. Scuba Diving, and Other Outdoor RecreationIn Victoria, the ocean is one of the few things that doesn’t change temperature very much during the winter time. Forget Mazatlan, or Bora Bora though, Victoria is a world-class diving destination for the wintertime.  Ogden Point Dive center, Frank Whites, Wilson Diving… There are plenty of options, but if going under water isn't your idea of a fun time, stop by the Mountain Equipment Co-Op to check out their guided trips and group outings. Kayaking, hiking, snowshoeing, whatever tickles your fancy. The Victoria Film FestivalMovies. What a perfect distraction for the wintertime. Curl up on the couch, hide your feet under something (or someone) warm, and watch something that can take you away from it all.  Starting in January, Victoria has it’s own little love story with film.  The Victoria Film Festival has been a great success every year, showcasing independent filmmakers, local artists, and Oscar buzzed international flavor year after year.  Cuddling is admittedly harder to do in theater seating, but the popcorn is plentiful and refills are free. Enjoy, Victoria!
